RESOLUTION OF COUNCILLOR JOHN M. TOBIN, JR.
WHEREAS: The Boston Lyric Opera provided free opera performances to the residents and visitors of the City of Boston; and
WHEREAS: The Boston Lyric Opera’s performance of “Carmen on the Common” drew 140,000 people to the Boston Common on September 20th and 21st; and
WHEREAS: The Boston Lyric Opera brought “Carmen” to 20 neighborhoods in the City of Boston this past summer; and
WHEREAS: Cultural Affairs has had dramatic budget cuts at the state and municipal levels; and
WHEREAS: There is an extraordinary need and demand for the performing arts in the City of Boston; Therefore be it
RESOLVED: That the Boston City Council honors the Boston Lyric Opera on the occasion of its 25th Anniversary for its success and dedication to bringing opera to all the residents of Boston and encourages them to continue this venture annually.
