It was exciting to use the technology of audioblog.com to be able to record and upload video over WiFi as it happened!
Some technical Notes for those who are interested
When someone records and publishes almost live, it relies on the speed and strength of the internet connection. That's why the quality is different than my regular video blog posts.
Not many internet connections are super fast and strong... merely average and that limitation can affect quality.
Uploading a video is an entirely different story...
Usually I'll record the video to tape, then log and capture to my Macintosh, edit with Final Cut Pro, compress for showing on the Internet, and finally upload to the blog using vblogcentral.com
audioblog.com also supports uploading videos. When you upload a video to audioblog, it is transcoded into a flash movie which uses a flash player for viewing.
All the magic happens *after* the video has been uploaded, and the internet connection doesn't affect anything but how long it takes to upload.
The Future
Jock Gill talked about the future where internet speeds get will be faster. Some day we'll be able to share high quality video files just as easily as we now send photos to each other.
With WiFi all over Boston, reporting like this type of citizens media will become commonplace.
I talked a little more about the process over on my blog.
