ORDER OF CITY COUNCILLOR JOHN M. TOBIN, JR.
WHEREAS: Boston’s Resident Permit Parking program has been in
place for approximately 35 years; and
WHEREAS: Boston’s only visitor parking policy consists of a few
designated 2-hour parking spots in residential areas; and
WHEREAS: Other major cities such as Chicago, Seattle, and
Philadelphia have successfully implemented guest-permit
parking programs; and
WHEREAS: Boston’s current visitor parking policy makes it difficult
for residents in some neighborhoods to have family and
friends come to visit; and
WHEREAS: Visiting nurses often have trouble finding parking in
residential areas, and because there are so few visitor parking spots, they often receive parking violations while attending to their patients who require in-home care; Therefore Be It
ORDERED: That the appropriate committee of the Boston City
Council conduct a hearing to discuss different visitor
permit parking programs and the possibility of
implementing such a policy in Boston.
