Councillor Tobin and the Parkway Family Day Task Force are pleased to announce the 4th Annual Parkway Family Day will be taking place on Saturday, June 24 at Millennium Park in West Roxbury from 11 AM to 3 PM.

This year's edition of Family Day will once again be highlighted by the Salute to America and the Parkway Idol. Free food will be provided by the Sausage Guy of Fenway Park fame. There will be arts and crafts, children's games, music, and many other family fun activities.

The Salute to America begins at noon and will honor Persian Gulf War veterans for their service to our country. The Thomas B. Materazzo Award will be presented to West Roxbury resident Robert Bunai. Mr. Bunai is a World War II veteran and survivor of the USS Indianapolis tragedy. Following the Salute to America, there will be a patriotic sing-along led by Parkway resident Jeff Colby. Persian Gulf War veterans and their families are encouraged to contact our office at 617-635-4220 to be included in the ceremony.

The Parkway Idol contest begins at 2 PM and will feature special guest Ayla Brown of American Idol fame. Ayla will be arriving at 1:30 to sign autographs and greet fans. The Idol contest wil be hosted by Parkway resident and CBS4 reporter Beth Germano. Interested participants should contact Kelly Tynan at 617-325-6400.

We'd like to thank the local sponsors who make Family Day possible, especially Hyde Park Savings Bank, Suffolk Construction, Chestnut Hill Realty, Roche Bros, West Roxbury Main Streets, the West Roxbury/Roslindale Kiwanis Club, Gary's Liquors, the Cooperative Bank, Boston ISEE Prep and the Boston Tutoring Center.

The Task Force is always looking for more volunteers for the day's many activities. Interested volunteers can contact our office. We look forward to seeing everyone there!   more »
