Boston City Councillor John M. Tobin, Jr. is currently looking for teens interested in launching a District 6 youth advisory board and encourages local young people interested in shaping public policy to get involved.

“Young people in our community have a great amount of energy and enthusiasm, but their voices are not always heard,” said Councillor Tobin, who was recently appointed as the City Council’s Vice President. “I’d like to sit with them at the table and listen to their ideas and their concerns. I want to find out if we can work together to make a difference in the lives of young people citywide.”

Councillor Tobin said he hopes to meet with the youth group quarterly to talk about how the Boston City Council can help improve the lives of Boston teens. Youth in grades 7 through 12 from West Roxbury, Jamaica Plain, and parts of Roslindale and Mission Hill are encouraged to apply. Councillor Tobin added that the board’s first responsibility will be choosing a name and helping to further develop the organization’s mission and goals.

Interested young people can send a letter or resume and at least one letter of recommendation to: Boston City Councillor John M. Tobin, Jr., Boston City Hall, 5th Floor, Boston, MA, 02201. The deadline for applications is February 28. Please call (617) 635-4220 with questions.
