Kiera Duggan's Holiday Card

Boston City Councillor John M. Tobin, Jr. announced this week that Kiera Duggan, a fourth grader at Holy Name School, is the winner of his 2007 holiday card design contest.

Ms. Duggan’s work, which features a pair of brightly colored mittens and the slogan “Hope you have a warm holiday season,” was chosen from hundreds of entries submitted by children in elementary schools in District 6, which includes West Roxbury and Jamaica Plain. Contest participants were asked to create nondenominational seasonal drawings in colored pencil or crayon. The winner’s work was chosen by Councillor Tobin and the members of a judging committee.

“I want to congratulate Kiera on a great job,” said Councillor Tobin, who serves as Chair of the City Council’s Committee on Arts, Film, Humanities & Tourism. “I get so many great submissions. It’s never an easy decision. Kiera’s design stood out because it was original and it captured the spirit of the season.”

Ms. Duggan’s artwork will be featured on Councillor Tobin’s 2007 holiday greeting, which is mailed out to thousands of his constituents, colleagues and professional associates citywide. She will also receive a gift certificate for educational items. Runners-up in the contest will be recognized with a certificate.

Councillor Tobin began the contest six years ago as a way to showcase the artistic talents of young people in his district.
