This is in the shameless promotion category -
but it is about access to government information -
and it is going to be a great program.

We are seeking organizations to host the webcast
and hold discussions in your communities.

The webcast will be archived, so if this is during
your Spring break, think about doing a local viewing and
discussion when everyone is back.

We will determine if the panelists would be willing to
receive e-mailed questions from sites that are not
participating in the live event.

Please share widely - with your academic colleagues,
your librarians (both academic and public), your local
journalists, and anyone else you can think of --
to see if they would be willing to host an event.

I am happy to send the advisory to anyone as a .doc file,
if requested.

Second Annual National Event
Will Explore Government Secrecy and Openness

Closed Doors; Open Democracies?
A national dialogue with government openness experts


Join Ira Flatow, host and executive producer of NPR's
Science Friday, and two panels of government and other
experts in a national dialogue addressing issues of
access to government information, including the impact of
government suppression and manipulation of scientific
information on public health and safety -
and accountability at the federal and the state
and local levels.

The event will begin with a lively discussion of the issues
and end with ideas for action.

This dialogue with government openness experts -
which will feature video segments and a question-and-answer
period, followed by local programs at sites across the
country - kicks off Sunshine Week 2007.
