ORDER OF COUNCILLOR JOHN M. TOBIN, JR.


WHEREAS: Quiet neighborhoods are integral to the quality of life and welfare of the residents of Boston; and

WHEREAS: Excessive and prolonged noise is disrupting to the daily lives of residents and to the commerce of local business owners; and

WHEREAS: Impact devices used in the field of construction cause significant levels of noise which can be very disruptive to the surrounding community; and

WHEREAS: Said noise can disrupt the sleeping patterns of those residents who work third shift jobs; and

WHEREAS: Said noise can also disrupt the daily routines of the City’s senior citizens and those families with small children at-home during the day; and

WHEREAS: This prolonged noise can also impair the productivity and financial well-being of those residents who work from home; Therefore Be It

ORDERED: That the appropriate committee of the Boston City Council conduct a public hearing to examine the feasibility of regulating the use of impact devices in the City of Boston between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. so as to minimize the negative environmental affects of said devices.
