Boston City Councillor John M. Tobin, Jr. recently announced the addition of Legislative Aides Cliff L. McLean of West Roxbury and Alex Gordillo of Roxbury to his staff.
“I am thrilled to have Cliff and Alex on my staff,” said Councillor Tobin, who represents West Roxbury and Jamaica Plain. “Both young men bring a valuable combination of skills and experience to my office. They are hardworking, energetic and enthusiastic. They are a great addition to my team.”
McLean and Gordillo will handle constituent issues on behalf of Councillor Tobin for West Roxbury and Jamaica Plain respectively. Their job responsibilities will also include legislative research, representing Councillor Tobin at community meetings and public hearings, and other administrative duties.
McLean is a graduate of Hamilton College in New York where he majored in Government. He also attended Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury where he served as Student Body President. McLean previously worked in the office of the Massachusetts Treasurer and at Mount Ida Summer Day Camp. He was a member of Psi Upsilon Fraternity in college and served as a member of the Mayor’s Youth Council.
Prior to joining Councillor Tobin’s staff, Gordillo, who is proficient in Spanish, worked as a City of Boston streetworker in the Hyde-Jackson area of Jamaica Plain. He also taught SAT preparation classes at Health Careers Academy, Madison Park High School and Boston Area Health Education Center and began the Prison Empowerment Program, which brings youth to medium security prisons. Gordillo also worked as a teaching associate at Citizen Schools and was a volunteer for ReadBoston. He attended Bowdoin College and Indiana University at Purdue.
McLean is replacing Robert Orthman of West Roxbury who is leaving Councillor Tobin’s office at the end of the month. Orthman, who joined Councillor Tobin’s staff in 2003, will attend Suffolk University Law School in the fall. Gordillo replaces Elaine Gowdy, who left Councillor Tobin’s staff last year.
