Budget Hearings

The Boston Public Schools face a major fiscal challenge this year. The BPS must figure out how to meet the needs of the city's children in a time of dwindling resources and shrinking budgets.
In an effort to inform and educate the public, the Boston School Committee and Superintendent Carol R. Johnson are holding a series of budget hearings for the 2009-2010 school year.

The members of the Boston School Committee will determine the School Department budget. Over the coming weeks, they will decide what the future will look like for each school and for each program. Once that process is complete, the Boston City Council will either approve or reject the budget.

Where do you think the resources are needed most? Which programs are working? Which ones are not? Now is your opportunity to speak up and tell the BPS and the members of the School Committee what you think. I encourage everyone interested in the future of education in our city to get involved.

There are a few ways to express your thoughts. You can attend one of BPS public meetings listed below. You can also contact the members of the 2009 Boston School Committee.
